Frequently asked questions

How much does a concrete driveway cost in Pittsburgh?

HomeGuide's national figures for 2026 are $6 to $15 per square foot, or $2,400 to $8,600 for a two-car driveway. Those are not our quotes. Slope, access, tear-out and drainage decide the price on a Pittsburgh lot. See our concrete cost guide.

Who is responsible for the sidewalk in front of my house in Pittsburgh?

The property owner. Chapter 417 of the City of Pittsburgh Code puts care, repair and replacement of the sidewalk and curb on the abutting owner, and the repair needs a city permit.

Do I need a permit for a driveway in Pittsburgh?

The city's exempt-work list says a driveway not more than 30 inches above grade needs no building permit, but zoning approval can apply and any new or changed curb cut is reviewed by the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure.

Why does concrete flake and crack so much here?

Freeze-thaw cycles and deicing salt. Water gets into or under the slab, freezes and expands. Air-entrained concrete, a drained stone base, sealing and keeping salt off new concrete are the defenses.

How long before I can use new concrete?

About one to two days for walking and about seven days for cars, longer in cold weather. Full strength takes about 28 days.

Who contacts PA One Call before digging?

Whoever digs. When we do the work, we place the notice with Pennsylvania One Call (811), which state law requires 3 to 10 business days before digging.

Do you remove the old concrete?

Yes. Tear-out and haul-away are part of our quote when a replacement is needed.

Can cracked concrete be repaired?

Small cracks and surface damage can often be repaired or resurfaced. Slabs that have sunk or broken up usually need to be replaced. We tell you which applies.

Do I need a permit for concrete work in Pittsburgh?

Driveway approaches, sidewalks and structural slabs often need a permit. We check the rules for your address.
